Do you support your friends?

Joining an MLM company is not for the faint of heart. I still have moments of shame and hesitation with who I share my new venture. It is so sad that these companies have such a bad reputation, I do not understand why. They are great companies with great products that use the power of conversation and relationships to sell their products. In a world where everyone is ordering online and has their nose stuck in a phone, is this not a great thing? Also, these MLM companies have a model that everyone succeeds when everyone else succeeds. There is no corporate ladder to climb and you do not get further ahead by squashing and competing with your coworkers.

Having come from the corporate oil and gas, I have seen that competition all too often. I was a geologist. Every year they place you and all your coworkers on a bell curve and rank you against them, creating an environment where you are always trying outdo your coworkers or even put them down to boost yourself. I know you have all been there, been on the curve. Someone has to be at the bottom, getting no raise or bonus and someone is always on top getting a great raise or bonus. Why would you do this to your employees? How does that create the best environment to work in, it doesn’t.

The premise behind companies that use people to sell their products is to build and support every individual. These companies spend their money training and supporting the individual, to find their internal motivation, their inner strength. They use this joy and positivity to share the product with the world. Other companies pay millions to marketing companies, celebrities or athletes to promote their product. Neither is correct, neither is wrong, they are just different. For some reason though the corporate model of spending millions on marketing to celebrities and having a top dog – the CEO – has become the more acceptable model.

I hope as the world starts to become more digital, with the likes of Amazon, online grocery shopping, etc. things will change. People will start supporting their neighbour, friend, fellow hockey mom in the business they are trying to build. These individuals are spending lots of time on personal growth, supporting others, gaining leadership skills and usually selling a product that they are super passionate about. They are not selling this to make money off of you, they are selling git because they legitimately love the product and feel that you too could benefit from it. These companies are no different than going to Shoppers Drug Mart or Walmart. In fact, they are usually more ethical than the large box stores and they look after every employee (distributor) well. They look after compensation and self-care, not too many large corporations do this well.

Next time you need an oil, candle, leggings, deodorant, cleaner, spices, Tupperware think about the people in your community who are building a business and trying to stay home and raise their kids. Don’t be jealous or spiteful, support them and if you are jealous, join them. Personal growth and positivity are worth the journey.

I always find it weird that your people always say they want to help you and support you but when it comes to buying a product you sell they completely back away.

I have always wondered why people are so skeptical about MLM companies? If you are passionate that you will not support them comment and let me know why? I am genuinely curious. Think of then as a direct sale…a person to person company?
